luken

7" record release titled "munduikustera"

We chatted with rafael irisarri about the luken munduikustera.ep on kupei

"the track titles are all in 'euskara', which is the language of the basque people . All of Luken's titles, credits, etc are in this language. I've being learning the Basque language for three years now, hence my interest in such titles (i guess it is kind of applied knowledge), besides, I'm a linguistics freak.

munduikustera means "world view" - mundukeria means "worldly vanity" - barneikusketa means "instrospection" - Luken doesn't mean anything in particular to me, I just like the sound of it. It is pronounce as LUKE, but with a 'N'sound at the end."

[ is the Basque language like castillian? ]

"it is funny u say that cause basque is pronounce very similar to castilian, with some differences. castilian inherited it's pronounciation from basque. since castilian is pretty much latin spoken by basques. with some influence of the arab language in there."

[ I try to wing it sometimes - jeez i'd have ta learn alot of languages to be totally correct, Yeah right! wow this isss interesting.]

[ sometimes i can roll the r's and sometimes not, i've always wanted to learn more about language with all the accents and shared phonics? ]

07.18.2005 | Tomas Bodén - Fel, Motminne: Praktik [kupei002]

Tomas Bodén is a sound artist, composer and philosopher living in Uppsala, Sweden. He is the mastermind behind the indie-glitchpop act Differnet, with whom he has released several records on numerous European and Japanese labels, while touring and receiving all kinds of press hype within the last three years. Besides creating music, he is currently preparing a dissertation on aesthetics at the University of Uppsala.

With ‘Fel, Motminne: Praktik’, Bodén presents his early works, circa 1994, when he created these organic compositions utilizing a few synths and tape recorders (i.e. no laptops). Surface noise, microrhythms and sampled found sounds (with very short decays) generate a splendid panoramic field. His sonic landscapes are spacious, reminiscent of early 80’s cassette home electronics, but at the same time melodic, beautiful and most important: structured. Make no mistake, this work is a representation of a lost generation preceding the notion of [clickmusik] and a blueprint for Boden’s future explorations.

This MP3 release features artwork by Henrik Lundström (Plans & Design), which is available as a PDF insert for regular jewel cases.
